Handling Time Gap
We are FBM and most of our listings are in Amazon Homemade. The ones that aren't, are older listings from before Amazon offered the Homemade Category. Because we make our items and many cannot be made before receiving the specifics in each order, we need to be careful when setting our handling time.
Our handling time gap is currently perfect. For the last several months we have been careful to ship on the exact required shipping day. The problem that occurred on many orders was that Amazon would not sell us a Ground Advantage label because they claimed the package could arrive late. We were forced to buy a different label or purchase an LDR label. My goal now is to keep our Handling Time Gap under the dreaded 2 days while avoiding the also dreaded Late Delivery Risk labels. My plan is to set our handling time to 2 days, but ship in 1 day.
This was a long way around to my question. On our Manage Orders page, the ship-by date is 2 business days after the order date. However, on the Orders Detail page, the ship-by date is given as multiple days. For instance, an order placed on Monday will say ship by Tuesday or Wednesday. An order placed on Thursday will say ship by Friday-Monday. I am wondering if shipping on that Tuesday or Friday will be counted as shipping on the required day with no gap or if it will be calculated as shipping early? My real concern is with the Fri-Mon orders. I want to ship before Monday to avoid LDR, but I don't want it to count as more than 1 day early, if early at all.
I hope reading all this hasn't made you dizzy. Does anyone think they know how Amazon calculates the shipping date vs their ship-by date?

The system likely calculates based on the first available date in the range as the "true" ship-by date, while showing the range to account for weekends/holidays. Shipping on the first available date should maintain your metrics while avoiding LDR issues.
Best Practice Recommendation:
Regular Week Orders:
- Ship on first date in the range
- This counts as "on time" not "early"
Weekend-Spanning Orders:
- Ship on Friday for Thursday orders
- This prevents weekend delays without counting as too early
Safe Approach:
- Use the first date in any range shown
- This optimizes both metrics and LDR prevention
