Amazon charge VAT on sales and fees automatically.

Are you a sole trader or a VAT registered company?

I found the process quite simple if you are a sole trader, making the account VAT amazon seller fee exempt by providing evidence; confirmation of the UTR number from hmrc and our up to date self assessment.

I would suggest researching through Youtube, as I unable to provide a link here however the videos are good and give you useful templates to send to seller support.

Hi.

If you are UK resident and your company is under VAT treshold of 85000 GBP sales, yes you can become VAT exempt on Amazon. This ony applies to seller fees and FBA fees invoices. Advertising is invoiced through UK company so it will have VAT on it.

I don't know the exact process but someone shared an example letter to send to seller support in another thread, if you search other threads you might find that.

One question, if you are under 85 K threshold why do you pay VAT annually to HMRC? What do you mean by that?

Hello, you can go to hmrc and sign up and claim VAT exemption from them, they will the process your request and send you a letter showing VAT exemption status. You can then submit this to amazon and they will investigate and stop charging VAT on the selling fees and refund any pre existing fees paid.

Hello,

I just did this a few days ago. Theres a tutorial on youtube or google a template. Just contact seller support, tell them you are under the threshold and submit your company incorporation certificate. They should stop charging you and refund you any fees on a certain date.

Hope it helps

Very good point.

If you are under £85 VAT threshold you do not have to be registered with HMRC but registering is in your benefit. If you are registered with HMRC and you have an VAT number you must enter it in amazon. If not sure ask amazon seller support to help you. If you are not registered with HMRC Amazon charges you VAT. If you are registered with HMRC amazon does not charge you VAT. Only Advertisement and shipping labels if you fulfilled them your sell ( Seller fulfilled ) I am sure if you register you VAT number with amazon and op a case and ask , Amazon will refund your VAT back.

Open a new case via caselogs & submit the proof of UTR to get yourself a VAT exemption (So that they stop charging it). You will have to wait one invoice cycle before you can apply for a refund of the previously charged VAT. The refund process is lengthy and takes about 3-4 months at the least, they will come back to you multiple times to ask for more info or just to tell you that its under process, but as long as all the documentation is fine, you will get the refund.

You are either VAT registered or not - you can't pick and choose what platforms you are and are not willing to be VAT registered on.

You can't be exempt on here yet pay VAT to HMRC. elsewhere.

Are you mixing up VAT with tax/corporation tax - 2 totally different things.
