Have I screwed up my account forever by using the same IP address?

I have a separate account with a different entity; I'm usually thorough and use a private address VPN to log into the second account so as not to make them connected (in which case every time one is deactivated, the second one would, too, defying the main reason for having 2 in the first places) The other day, I was cavalier about it and accidentally logged in to my second account from the same device without a VPN turned on. Have I formed that unwanted connection forever between the accounts now?

Fortunately. No.

Amazon actually permits two accounts on the same IP address. The only time you get suspended is if one of those accounts violated some sort of policy.

There is a very large number of ways that we identify an associated account, this is much more than simply an IP concern as it could surround the device itself, locations, user permissions as an example. You can see more on this from our seller university video on how to comply with our multiple account policy.

Having multiple accounts is not a violation of our policies, if you have an actual business need to have a different store such as toys and games vs adult products which should not be sold together, or different brands, for this I recommend reviewing our code of conduct-multiple account policy for more details.

You may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region in which you sell unless you have a legitimate business need to open a second account and all of your accounts are in good standing. If any of your accounts are not in good standing, we may deactivate all of your selling accounts until all accounts are in good standing.

Examples of a legitimate business justification include:

  • You own multiple brands and maintain separate businesses for each
  • You manufacture products for two distinct and separate companies
  • You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts

Creating a second account to prevent the deactivation of both, could be considered a violation and circumvention of our policies if there is no valid business need for the store.

I would also like to ask if you are currently experiencing a multiple account policy violation that caused the deactivation of your store. If you have, we typically provide two paths to dispute the situation.

The first provided path is to show proof of separation with documents such as contracts, termination, bill of sale or transfer of ownership dated prior to the deactivation. If you are the account owner of both stores, the second path will require the original policy violation to first be addressed before your store would be eligible for reactivation.

Our review teams never provide the exact reason connections are made but by logging in even once could create a connection. Even using a VPN, if you are on the same device, it could cause issues.

I ask because if I screwed that up, I would need to delete my second account and register for a new one so that it wouldn't be connected to my first; that's a whole fiasco (the desired scenario is to have two completely separated, unconnected seller accounts)
Wyświetl wpis

The account when created was likely already associated to your other store. As mentioned our review teams never disclose their methods for associating accounts but has proven in the past to be extremely accurate. It is safe to assume if you manage multiple accounts, even with different information, there's is likely an established connection. Closing and deleting the store to create a new one would only establish a new connection with the new store.

Regarding having an unconnected account, this is not something we offer. If you operate one store, and it encounters a policy violation, all stores can be deactivated as a result of our multiple account policy. Attempting to avoid or circumvent this will result in a more severe situation, thus it is not advised.

Hi Emet, @Emet_Amazon I hope you've been well, I had been planning to switch the legal entity of that second account to mine and finalize the transfer. Still, my friend, who owns the account, told me they opened the account not with the American company, which is its legal entity now. Still, they opened the account individually with their foreign passport and, after 2 years, changed it to a corporation. Now, I would like to have two accounts. Initially, I pegged my friend's account, which they're willing to give me as a compelling account as its legal entity is an American Corporation, but now, having known it's initially not registered with that Corporation wondering whether Amazon treats an Amazon account which had been registered with an American entity the same as Account which had been registered as a foreign entity and then been changed to an American entity. I hope I was able to articulate my inquiry perspicuously.

I'd like to ask, as a Chinese seller using the Amazon Seller Central platform to list products in China, I find the process can be quite slow. Therefore, I log into the backend after connecting through a VPN. I understand that using a VPN changes my IP address. Would this potentially associate my store with other sellers who also use the same VPN? Are there any indications of such an association? Also, if this issue arises, how would I go about appealing it?
